Malaysian gov't tightens spending amid global supply crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysian government is stepping up proactive measures to rein in non-critical expenditure as part of efforts to maintain economic stability amid rising global uncertainties, the Finance Ministry said on Wednesday.

The guidelines were issued to ministries and agencies to reprioritize their operating spending, in response to challenges stemming from global supply disruptions and increasing subsidy commitments, it said in a statement.

"This measure forms part of a prudent fiscal management approach to optimize government resources, ensuring continued support for the people," it said.

The ministry emphasized that expenditure adjustments will be implemented without affecting critical services to the public or economic stability.
