KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported another 16,840 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 1,095,486, the health ministry said Friday.
Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 17 of the new cases are imported and 16,823 are local transmissions.
Another 134 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 8,859.
Some 12,179 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 902,921, or 82.4 percent of all cases.
Of the remaining 183,706 active cases, 1,055 are being held in intensive care and 532 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
