Newspapers hurry to get online
Malaysia News.Net Monday 1st March, 2010
Online newspapers have become popular with Internet readers all over the world.
While much of the material comes from so-called aggregator sites, newspapers such as the New York Times and Chicago Tribune are experimenting with online sites.
Reading newspapers has become less popular in both the US and UK, becoming only the third most-popular form of news, behind local and national TV stations.
According to the Pew Research Centre people want to be informed with any device they have at the ready, including computer screens and mobile phones.
Sixty-one percent of readers surveyed said they got their news online on a typical day, compared with 78% from local news and 71% from a national TV network or cable channels.
Fifty-four percent said they listened to radio news programs at home or in the car.
More than 90% used more than one method to get news, and 57% consulted many websites as part of their newsfinding.
