UK final salary pensions show lacklustre returns

Final salary pension schemes in the UK private sector have hit £52 billion.
The Pension Protection Fund has expressed concern that the value of pension scheme assets fell by 1.5% in January.
The PPF has said that 75% of schemes are now in deficit while 25% are in surplus.
But the fund has also said the impact of rising equity markets has outweighed that of falling bond yields, leading to an overall improvement of the funding position. Email this story to a friend
