new rules follow US airline terror scare
Malaysia News.Net Sunday 27th December, 2009
Airline passengers will face new rules after the attempted bombing of a Northwest Airlines plane by a Nigerian passenger.
Alerts have been sent out to US airlines by the US Transportation Security Administration, which has released new edicts for passengers and staff.
Some airlines are believed to be considering asking US-bound travellers to arrive earlier at airports and to subject themselves to personal screenings.
Customers may also be confined to having a single piece of carry-on baggage which they will not be allowed to access.
During the final hour of flight customers will have to remain seated and will not be able to heve anything on their laps, including pillows and blankets.
At the moment the rules will only apply to passengers headed for the United States.
US authorities on Saturday charged a Nigerian man with trying to blow up a passenger plane with high explosives.
They are investigating his claim that he had links to al Qaeda.
