Putin says the presidency is still in his sights
Malaysia News.Net Friday 4th December, 2009
The prime minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has suggested he will return to Russia’s presidency.
Speaking to TV viewers, he said he would consider running in 2012.
Not quite making an outright delaration of his intentions, Mr Putin said he would remain on the political stage and think about the presidency.
Putin, who is very popular in Russia, even as an ex-KGB man, formally stepped down from the presidency in 2008, after spending eight years in the job.
Constitutional term limits forced him to step down in 2008, when Dmitry Medvedev was named as his successor.
Putin was given a new post shortly after the election when Medvedev named him prime minister.
