Revered British folk singer Yusuf Islam - once known as Cat Stevens - has been booed by fans at an eagerly-awaited comeback concert after he allowed another singer to perform some of his best-known songs on stage.
'Now I know what (Bob) Dylan felt like,' Stevens told his audience in Dublin at the weekend after some fans booed while others gave a standing ovation in his first concert tour in 33 years.
Fans who greeted his well-known songs with rapturous applause turned against him when he paused his performance for a 40-minute preview of his forthcoming musical, 'Moonshadow', The Times reported.
They began walking out when the musical's cast 'trouped on to act, dance and deliver a mix of new material and the Cat Stevens classics 'Father and Son' and 'Wild World',' the newspaper said.
'In London's West End, where it is due to open next year, 'Moonshadow' could go down a storm. In front of an audience who had come to hear Islam trawl his back catalogue, it was never going to work,' the Times critic wrote.
But Islam ended the concert on a high note for the bulk of the audience - who had stayed back - with a lengthy, rocky rendition of 'Peace Train' and a 'spine-tingling' version of 'Father and Son,' two of his enduring hits.
The Islam tour moves to Birmingham and Liverpool before hitting the Royal Albert Hall in London Dec 8.  Email this story to a friend

Booed
I am wondering if people were just so upset at Cat Stevens for letting somebody else perform a song or a few of his. I also wonder if people really know who Cat Stevens is. Anyway, his songs are a lot of fun it is too bad that the writer of this article focuses on the minority instead of the majority of the people at the concert.

So? So some people booed... no concert is perfect! All other artists has been booed before one time or another... Why is it such a big deal that he was booed by some quarters? The writer obviously has something else going on against Cat Stevens!

Well, except for the musical theatre part, they booed Dylan for going electric. But hey, Sir Elton’s writing musical theatre too, and Stevens did have the whole Moonshadow story long ago...

Loved Cat Stevens and his songs back in the 70’s. Can’t say I would want to hear him since he converted to Islam. He might want to rethink his re-emergence into the scene. I no longer know what Cat Stevens believes in. Perhaps that is the reason for the

Don't be rude.
If you dont like Cat Stevens or Yusuf Islam then don’t go to his concerts. Booing is rude. Save it for wrestling matches.

at the albert hall on tuesday there was no booing. more power to yer elbow yusuf mate! made the albert hall into an intimate venue - now that’s just brilliant. great cat stevens music. standing ovations well deserved. i would definitely go and see you again - great gig. i feel sorry for the people who seem so bigoted. they just don’t get the message. peace man!!
