Samy Vellu questioned in Krishnasamy murder probe

Malaysia News.Net
Wednesday 16th January, 2008 (IANS)

Police questioned Malaysian Works Minister S. Samy Vellu as part of the probe into the murder of his political associate S. Krishnasamy.

Two plainclothes policemen spent two hours in Vellu's office Tuesday.

Media reports quoted unnamed sources as saying that the interview was merely part of police investigations into the Friday murder of Krishnasamy, 62, who was a member of the Tenggaroh state assembly.

Krishnasamy was also a leader of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), the party of ethnic Indians that Vellu heads.

An unidentified person had put up a poster accusing Vellu and his son of having killed Krishnasamy.

Police do not rule out political or business rivalry as the cause of the murder. Media reports have linked Krishnasamy with a businessman who allegedly has links with the underworld.

Vellu declined to discuss the interview or release a press statement after the policemen left his office, The New Straits Times said Wednesday.

Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan had Monday said that several other individuals had been questioned in relation to the murder.

Krishnasamy was shot by an unidentified gunman in a lift at the Johor province's MIC headquarters last Friday.

Police are looking for a youth, in his 30s, who is probably an ethnic Indian, going by the photofit prepared on the testimony of eyewitnesses.

A woman activist of the MIC had seen a man fleeing from the murder site, carrying a package in hand and riding away on a motorcycle.

Vellu, who was in India when the murder took place, later disclosed that Krishnasamy had received several threatening phone calls about a week before he was murdered.

Last Monday, police questioned the personal assistant of a prominent MIC politician along with a former employee of Krishnasamy.

Something is really wrong...but no one can do anything about this because this will go on and on. The police will never find the person who did this. This case will be closed soon...you’ll see. Its all in the politic game.
